Calf Pens: A Weekly Pitchfork Exercise

Keeping all 11 calves clean and dry certainly means forking a lot of hay!

Usually I clean out one calf pen at a time, make a large pile of it in the calf greenhouse, and then move it all at once onto the skidsteer and move it all to the manure pit. I’ve learned that mulch hay is much more absorbent than straw, and is therefore better to bed the calf pens with. Sometimes, it takes two or three trips with the skidsteer to clean all the pens! But it’s worth it so that all the calves can stay clean and dry.
